Secret Service Bans Agent Drinking on the Job

In the wake of a recent scandal involving alcohol and prostitutes, the Secret Service has announced a new policy that bans agents from drinking alcohol in the hotel where the president or other protected persons are staying.

The policy also prohibits agents from drinking in the 10 hours before reporting for work, according to The Washington Post. In addition, sharing work-related information on social media websites including Facebook is not permitted. The new rules come after more than a dozen Secret Service agents were accused of drunken partying with prostitutes on a presidential visit to Colombia in April.

Most Secret Service employees received the written policies this week, the newspaper states. Leaders of the agency say these policies were always part of the unwritten code of conduct.
