San Antonio Area Leaders Seek Unified Approaches to Drug Challenges
A broad-based task force in Bexar County, Texas for the first time will marshal the San Antonio area's drug-fighting resources toward establishing a unified strategy, the San Antonio Express-News reported Aug. 4.
Representatives from hospitals, nonprofit agencies, schools, the faith community, government agencies and the justice system are among those serving on the newly formed San Antonio Area Substance Abuse Task Force. One hundred people participated in the group's first meeting on Aug. 3.
The various sectors of the community need to begin pooling their anti-drug resources rather than relying on isolated efforts, said Will Brown, a meeting organizer who is with the Palmer Drug Abuse Program.
Brown believes the group will work for at least a year to devise a plan, then will identify the resources needed and take its message to lawmakers.
