Oklahoma Looks to Oregon Anti-Meth Law Requiring Prescriptions for Pseudoephedrine

Oklahoma is considering a law similar to one in Oregon that requires a prescription for the tablet form of pseudoephedrine, the key ingredient in methamphetamine. Since Oregon instituted the law in 2005, meth labs have almost disappeared from the state, the Tulsa World reports.

Portland, OR, Police Sergeant Jay Bates told the newspaper that while meth labs have greatly decreased, there is still meth on the streets of Portland, which has been smuggled in from Mexico.

Richard Drandoff, the owner of ChangePoint, a group of five Portland-area substance abuse facilities, said that drug users have moved from meth to heroin because it is cheap and available.
