My struggle to recovery

Story Of Hope By Dawn Kahana
My struggle to recovery

I have been fighting addiction for 14 years now. I was a heavy heroin user who had 4 children and many grandkids and I just couldn’t stop using. I had been viciously stabbed and robbed and even had colon and pancreatic cancer but still couldn’t stop using. Drugs took so much from my life. I had to use just to function, I no longer got high. I actually was forced to use against my will. If I didn’t have drugs I couldn’t get out of bed let alone function, clean, shower or do anything. One day I woke up and said I just refuse to live like this anymore. This was not God’s choice for me.  I felt I was slapping God in the face after he saved me from death 3 times (the stabbing and both cancers). Now it was time to be grateful and live life not just exist. I got treatment and today I have 41 days clean. I never thought I could do it but with the help of a higher power who I call God, Narcotics Anonymous and other recovering addicts I stay clean one day at a time!

So glad you finally found the direction and support you needed to get clean and healthy. Enjoy your children, grandchildren, and your life. I hope you continue to be a source of inspiration for them and others! May you continue to find strength in moments of weakness! G-d Bless!!
