Starbucks will be offering regional beer and wine in some of its stores. TIME reported Oct. 19 that the addition of alcohol on the menu is meant to increase evening traffic; 70 percent of Starbucks customers visit the shops before 2 pm.
A remodeled store in Seattle is the first to offer alcohol. “What we’ve done is we’ve tried to create a variety of options that you might find in more of a restaurant at night,” said Kris Engskov, regional vice president at Starbucks.
Stores will likely offer a broader range of food and be remodeled for what TIME referred to as “a decidedly un-Starbucks look.”
