Snoop Dogg Pitches New Sweetened Alcoholic Drink

Rapper Snoop Dogg is promoting the new fruit-flavored alcoholic drink, Blast by Colt 45, The New York Times reports.

The rapper is featured in a promotional video on YouTube, in 7-foot cardboard cutouts that will be displayed in stores and on delivery truck photos. Snoop Dogg is promoting Blast on Facebook, where he has more than 8 million followers, and Twitter, where he has more than 3 million followers.

The Marin Institute, an alcohol industry watchdog, started an online petition opposing Blast, which is sold in 23.5-ounce cans and 12 percent alcohol by volume. That is more than twice of most major beer brands. As with another well-known similar beverage, Four Loko, drinking one Blast delivers more alcohol than four 12-ounce bottles of beer. Michael J. Scippa, public affairs director for the Institute, noted that a large segment of Snoop Dogg’s fans were under 21. The company that makes Blast says it expects the drink to appeal primarily to drinkers in their late 20s or early 30s.

In the NY Times article, Evan Metropoulos said, “Blast (in) seven-ounce bottles, sold in six-packs for about $7, will appeal to women more than 23.5-ounce cans, and reflects a commitment to provide smaller sizes to encourage moderation.
“We’re going to do our very best to hammer home the message of responsible drinking.”
Here’s how they hammer it home: heavily promoted photo of Snoop Dogg with the 23.5-oz. cans; meanwhile those looking for the 7-ouncer can find their way to it. And where’s the three-ouncer you can carry in a shirt pocket like $igarettes in the old days?

What is the matter with everyone in this country and theworld. A small child could see this and think it was soda or etc.
Alcohol every where, and put in everything!
And then you wonder why this country and the
entire world is completely addicted to alcohol!

i’m gonna take a wild guess and say snoop is in it for the money for promoting this drink. i can only hope that he does have a conscience and wouldn’t want his family/children to drink this garbage..but then again, to promote the image of himself smoking weed and ‘gangsta’ rap, maybe he’s drinking it too! geez! aren’t there enough garbage drinks out here already that screws up our brains and tearing our families up through addiction, violence, etc? or maybe i’m just naive!! :-(
