Pro-Marijuana Legalization Ad to Appear Outside NASCAR Race

A group that advocates for the legalization of marijuana will run a video ad outside a NASCAR race in Indianapolis this weekend, USA Today reports. It will be the first time such an ad will appear so close to the entrance of a major sporting event.

The ad is sponsored by the Marijuana Policy Project, the country’s largest pro-marijuana legalization advocacy group, the article notes. The video, which is made to look like a beer ad, tells viewers marijuana is less harmful than alcohol. A narrator says marijuana has no calories, no hangovers, and is not linked to violence or reckless behavior.

The ad is scheduled to run 72 times over a three-day period. Up to 600,000 people may see the ad as they enter the racetrack. NASCAR is not affiliated with the advertiser, or with the company that sells the ad space. The ad is not on track property, or on property over which the track has any control, according to Douglas Boles, president of Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

I wonder why they won’t run more of the facts about marijuana – gateway drug correlation, dependency for many and dropping out of college, drop in IQ, poor grades, a motivational syndrome, impaired driving, triggering of psychosis in some first time users… it’s all about the $$$$ like big tobacco and alcohol all over again.

I can answer your question. It is because the “facts” that you gave are NOT the facts that are REAL. There have been HUNDREDS and even THOUSANDS of actual MEDICAL studies done over the last 40 years and the number of ANY of those things you mention above is ZERO. The fact that you are even trying to sell this garbage without even ONE backing argument is just how the PROPAGANDA gets distributed and believed by the masses. You would rather the “people” that are attending the event see countless MILLIONS spent on alcohol ads at the SAME event. This event was sponsored and co-sponsored by SEVERAL alcohol companie. Yet one LITTLE ad OFF PROPERTY, was given this much attention by an organization that is ALSO campaigning AGAINST the very same alcohol that will be consumed by THOUSANDS in attendance at the event. I don’t get it. But you see this LITTLE battle has only just started and I can assure you that there will be a clear accounting of just WHERE the monies came from that funded the removal of this ad. I for one am shocked that this org would have anything to do with the removal of an ad for a NATURAL healing plant yet NEVER complain once about the REAL problem going on just a short distance away.
    I say very hypocritical indeed.
