The Catholic League is blasting Miller Brewing Co. for sponsoring what the group calls “an incredibly outrageous and palpably anti-Christian event” — a San Francisco street fair — Fox News reported Sept. 27.
The 2007 Folsom Street Fair was billed as having “fairgrounds filled with people in their most outrageous leather/rubber/fetish attire.” It benefits a number of local charities.
An ad for the fair included a makeover of Leonardo da Vinci's “The Last Supper” featuring men and women in bondage outfits sitting at a table littered with sex toys. A poster also featured a group of what were described as “lesbian nuns.”
A Miller spokesperson said, “While Miller has supported the Folsom Street Fair for several years, we take exception to the poster the organizing committee developed this year. We understand some individuals may find the imagery offensive.”
A Catholic League official called that response “a lame statement of regret.”
