DEA Cracks Down on Potent Marijuana Product Called “Wax” in California

/By

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is cracking down in California on a potent marijuana product called “wax,” according to ABC News. Wax is legal—and popular—in Colorado.

Wax is a distillation of marijuana said to be so potent that a single hit will keep a person high for more than a day, the article notes. A person making wax uses the flammable substance butane to strip out the THC, the chemical in marijuana that causes a high.

“There is no weed out there that possesses the punching power that the wax does,” an anonymous undercover DEA informant told ABC News’ “Nightline.” “And it’s like smoking 20 joints of the best grade of weed that you have into one hit of the wax.”

Gary Hill of the DEA’s San Diego office said, “We have seen people have an onset of psychosis and even brain damage from that exposure to that high concentration of THC. Our concern is that this is going to spread before we get it under control.”

In Colorado, wax is legal for anyone over the age of 21. It is sold in recreational marijuana dispensaries. A three-day contest called the X-Cup, held in Denver, is designed to determine who can make the most potent batch of wax.

Get a life and stop trying to ruin mine! I require large doses of THC in order to live any kind of life at all due to chronic back and knee pain. Without strong cannabis concentrates that pain relief is impossible to achieve.

The common flaw amongst the addicted is self-centeredness. So your pain trumps all.

Maybe they are not trying to remove your pain medication but trying to keep kids from ruining their lives as teens. I was one of them.

All of my friends started with pot so I know the dangers. I also know the stuff is much more potent than what I used to smoke.

If a kid smokes pot for two years before the age of 19 his IQ drops by 8 points. Emergency rooms in Colorado are reporting more and more teens checking in for psychosis.

But as long as you are alright…

they are right on some things and way off base on others. for instance,, 1 hit of wax or shatter is “NOT” going to keep you Stoned all day long, lol. maybe 3 or 4 hours max.
and no,,,, it’s not like 1 hit is like smoking 20 joints of the most potent bud out there. If I take 1 hit of wax I will feel like I am very Drunk without the hangover.
If i tried to smoke 20 Joints of the best bud out there I would be knocked out before finishing the 2nd joint so the DEA are really misinformed.

You’re right; no amount of cannabis, regardless of how potent, will keep a person high for 24 hours. By definition, smoked cannabis preparations have a duration of action of 3-4 hours, with some after-affects lingering beyond that point, but not for 24 hours. It does not help anyone for misinformation like this to be published, but rather threatens the credibility of the source.

Once the THC is stripped from the marijuana bud, can that weed still be smoked (making use of the other 400-some cannabinoids that have pain killing properties yet no psychoactive effects)or does the Butane process irrevocably harm the bud?
