Nancy Pelosi Criticizes Government’s Actions on Medical Marijuana in California

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi criticized the Obama Administration’s stance against medical marijuana suppliers in California this week. She said the government is putting patients in danger, and undermining its policy of deferring to states on the issue, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

This is the first time Pelosi publicly criticized the government’s actions on medical marijuana, the article notes.

“Access to medicinal marijuana for individuals who are ill or enduring difficult and painful therapies is both a medical and a states’ rights issue,” she said in a statement. “I have strong concerns about the recent actions by the federal government that threaten the safe access of medical marijuana to alleviate the suffering of patients in California.”

In October, United States attorneys in California told dozens of marijuana dispensaries they must close or face criminal and civil action. Four U.S. attorneys said they would prosecute landlords who rent space to operators of medical marijuana dispensaries. The attorneys said they were also focusing on properties used to grow marijuana. Since then, about 300 marijuana dispensaries in the state have closed, according to the newspaper. More than 1,000 medical marijuana suppliers are still in business, according to the advocacy group Americans for Safe Access.

So very true. It is sad when we are relabeling drugs as medications, especially at a time when prescrption drug use is on the rise.

Dear House Leader Nancy Pelosi, Before you make a blanket statement about what states are dealing with with regard to medical marijuana, please know what’s really happened. Over 200 marijuana dispensaries opened for business in the City of San Diego. And who were the clients – 20 year olds who received a “recommendation” from a spurious doctor for all kinds of conditions, such as, “I drink too much wine and I get headaches.” No one wants to deny terminally ill or chronically ill people a relief, if marijuana does that. But Proposition 215 was not adhered to, and therefore, what we had was drug dealing out of a storefront.

Thank you for speaking the truth about this. Most of the “medical” marijuana is despensed in a way in which no other medications have ever been. The dispensers should have to go through the same procedures as pharmacies if they want to level the playing field and call marijuana a medicine.

Stop it already alcohol is sold in every party store in the country except in dry counties and it is the worst drug out there closly followed by tobacco and prescription narcodics.

Dear Mrs Pelose, Ireland welcomed you recently in our Parliament and President and Mrs Obama last summer. Ireland has close ties with America and it’s leaders. As a counsellor and drug educater of 35 years standing I am deeply shocked that you would use your position to promote the use of a highly dangerous drug. A drug that causes serious and sometimes irriversible brain damage and is more carcinogenic than cigarettes. In future please check with your Health Advisor before embarking on a crusade that will bring destruction to your most vulnerable citizens. Young prople and those old and infirm through illness. You have the research. Use it. Not the utterings of NORML’s Keith Stroup who advised “we will use medical marijuana as a red herring to promote the legalisation of marijuana”. All helped by the money of George Soros.
