Community Foundation Giving Triples Since 1996

The assets of community foundations continue to grow, as does their giving: the Columbus Foundation reports that community-foundation grantmaking has tripled since 1996.

Giving by the 636 foundations surveyed stood at $3 billion in 2004. Total assets of the foundations were up 13 percent from 2003, standing at $39.4 billion. Community foundations that gave the most last year were the Tulsa Community Foundation, the Peninsula Community Foundation, and the Community Foundation of Silicon Valley.

The New York Community Trust, the Cleveland Foundation, the Chicago Community Trust, the Marin Community Foundation, and the Tulsa Community Foundation each had assets exceeding $1 billion.
