Just over half of Christians don't believe that drinking beer in moderation is morally wrong, according to a survey conducted by ChristiaNet.
The survey of 5,200 Christians found that 51 percent endorsed moderate drinking, while 38 percent believed that drinking beer in any amount is morally wrong; 11 percent said they were unsure.
Respondents on both sides quote Scripture and Bible stories to support their positions, with one supporter saying, “If drinking a little bit is wrong, then why did Jesus drink wine?,” while an opponent quoted Proverbs 20:1: “Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.”
“Christ warns of the results of drunkenness,” noted Bill Cooper, president of ChristiaNet. The website recently unveiled an Addiction Quiz for site visitors.
