Financial Integrity and Effectiveness
Governance and Oversight
The Partnership at Drugfree.org adheres to charity management and fundraising standards issued by the Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance. Our volunteer board of directors is active and independent, and provides oversight over operations and staff.
The Partnership at Drugfree.org has developed a long-established record of effectiveness. Since launching the largest public education campaign in our nation’s history, the use of illicit drugs has fallen by more than 32%, equaling 7.4 million fewer drug users.
Specifically, the organization’s anti-Ecstasy campaign launched in 2002. By 2004, the Partnership Attitude Tracking Study had confirmed across-the-board reductions in overall teen drug use with a remarkable turnaround in Ecstasy use among teens — a significant 25 percent decline which meant 770,000 fewer kids using Ecstasy to get high.
In addition, our anti-inhalants education campaign, introduced in 1995, helped reverse a 20-year increase in inhalant use among kids and teens and led to consistent year-to-year reductions in use between 1995 and 2001. At the time, ours were the only anti-inhalant messages on air.
The organization’s research is leading a groundbreaking effort that continues to bring national attention to the intentional abuse of prescription and over-the-counter medicines by teens.
Our community education team has trained more than 1,500 presenters in every state to deliver turn-key and customizable programs that address issues ranging from methamphetamine to alcohol. It offers a parent “101” on the drug and alcohol landscape, all vetted by the nation’s leading experts in substance abuse.
With the addition of a teen-oriented substance abuse prevention program and a number of Spanish-language resources and tools, The Partnership at Drugfree.org has directly reached nearly 30,000 concerned parents, family members, caregivers and community leaders at the grassroots level across the country.
And, with the introduction of our comprehensive array of online resources at drugfree.org, we have reached nearly seven million online visitors and parents, providing access to tools, guides and e-books.
The Partnership at Drugfree.org is one of only 13 organizations worldwide to receive the prestigious Discovery Health Medical Honors award for extraordinary contributions to world health. The Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance Charity Seal Program officially certified The Partnership at Drugfree.org for complying with their 20 rigorous charity standards. The New York Times says The Partnership at Drugfree.org is, “one of the most effective drug-prevention organizations in the U.S.”
