New York, October 29, 2008 — The Partnership for a Drug-Free America is pleased to announce the election of Joe Erwin to its Board of Directors.
Erwin serves as co-founder and president of Erwin-Penland, which represents national and regional clients including Verizon Wireless (national retail), Advance America, Firehouse Subs and Lockheed Martin Aeronautics. Founded in 1986, Erwin-Penland is now one of the largest full-service advertising, marketing and public relations firms in the Southeast, with more than 200 employees.
“We are honored and excited to have Joe join our Board at the Partnership,” said Roy Bostock, chairman of the Partnership. “With a proven track record in advertising and media management, Joe brings his business savvy and valuable insight to our organization to help us further our mission.”
A graduate of Clemson University — where he volunteered for future-Congressman Jim Clyburn’s campaign for Secretary of State — Erwin began his career at Leslie Advertising in Greenville. He was soon recruited by DMB&B in New York, where he worked for several years before returning to Greenville with his wife Gretchen to open Erwin-Penland. Erwin was elected Chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party in 2003, and completed his second two-year term in May 2007. During that time, he negotiated and produced two Democratic Presidential debates — one in Greenville and one in Orangeburg — that were broadcast live nationally on NBC. Since then, Erwin has been active as the South Carolina Presidential Primary Co-chair General Election Advisor for the Obama for America Campaign. In 2008, Erwin and members of Erwin-Penland’s leadership team created and hosted the first annual Food for Thought conference. Erwin resides in Greenville, SC with his wife and two children.

About the Partnership
The Partnership for a Drug-Free America is a nonprofit organization that unites parents, renowned scientists and communications professionals to help families raise healthy children. Best known for its research-based national public education programs, the Partnership motivates and equips parents to prevent their children from using drugs and alcohol, and to find help and treatment for family and friends in trouble. The centerpiece of this effort is an online resource center at drugfree.org, featuring interactive tools that translate the latest science and research on teenage behavior, addiction and treatment into easy to understand tips and tools. At drugfree.org, parents can connect with each other, tap into expert advice for children of all ages, and find the support they want and need to raise healthy families. The Partnership depends on donations from individuals, corporations, foundations and other contributors. The Partnership thanks SAG/AFTRA, the advertising industry and our media partners for their ongoing generosity in the fight against drug abuse in America.
