WASHINGTON, D.C., September 26 – The Partnership for a Drug-Free America honored Congressman Jim Walsh (R-25th, NY) with the 2007 Guardian Award at a ceremony held today at the United States Capitol. The Guardian Award is given annually in recognition of leadership on substance abuse issues, and in appreciation of efforts to protect America’s families from the threat of substance abuse.
The award was presented by Stephen J. Pasierb, president and CEO of the Partnership, along with members of the Partnership’s Parent Advisory Board, a committed group of parents and caregivers from around the country who share a variety of family experiences with drugs and alcohol and help guide the development of Partnership programs and resources.
“Congressman Walsh has made the health and safety of children the centerpiece of his career, advocating for educational programs for special-needs children and pushing through landmark legislation to ensure that all newborns are screened for hearing loss,” said Pasierb. “We are grateful that Jim Walsh has also turned his attention to keeping kids safe from drugs, joining with the Partnership to educate parents and teens about prescription drug abuse. He is a champion for children, and we are proud to honor him today.”
