Financial Integrity and Effectiveness

  • Governance and Oversight -- The Partnership for a Drug-Free America holds itself to the highest not-for-profit standards. The Partnership also adheres to charity management and fundraising standards issued by the Better Business Bureau's Wise Giving Alliance. Our volunteer board of directors is active and independent, and provides adequate oversight over the Partnership's operations and its staff.
  • Measuring Effectiveness -- The Partnership regularly assesses its effectiveness in achieving its mission. Since our inception, every donated dollar spent in developing our messages have been leveraged into $50 of media exposure--time and space. Millions of teens and their parents see and hear our messages every day. Independent studies consistently show a clear and direct correlation between exposure to Partnership messages and positive changes in teen attitudes and behavior.
  • Donor Funds -- The Partnership spends donor funds honestly, prudently and in accordance with statements made in donor fundraising appeals. The majority of the Partnership's funds (80%) are used in the development and implementation of prevention, intervention and treatment initiatives. The balance (20%) is utilized for fundraising, management, general and administrative services.

Financial Information

Audited financial statements and our annual 990 tax return are available for your review below. These statements provide the most meaningful financial information on the Partnership for a Drug-Free America. Please note that the Partnership's major source of revenue and support is from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (estimated to be 37% of revenue in 2005). In 2002, we received an unconditional promise of $15 million, payable over a three-year period from November 1, 2003 through October 31, 2006. The Partnership is required to record the full amount of this grant in the year the commitment is received (2002) in order to comply with generally accepted accounting principles. This treatment has the effect of distorting financial results in the subsequence years. We have, in fact, a solid financial position.
