Marketing / Communications Manager - Multicultural Programs

The Partnership at Drugfree.org seeks an experienced bilingual professional to coordinate and participate fully in the active marketing of its resources and programs to key constituencies:  parents, strategic partners and new media outlets.

Background

The Partnership at Drugfree.org has evolved in recent years from a largely advertising-driven drug prevention media campaign to a public health nonprofit that helps parents prevent, intervene in and find treatment for drug and alcohol use by their children.  Its research-based content, found primarily online at www.drugfree.org, and its online and offline multimedia programs, including Time To Talk / Habla Con Tus Hijos and PACT360 community education, are acknowledged by the substance abuse field as top quality resources for parents.  The Partnership’s challenge is to drive awareness of these resources and make them more widely accessed by parents and by professionals who work with parents in the prevention and treatment of adolescent substance abuse.

Major Responsibilities

  • Management of Time To Talk and its Hispanic partner program Habla Con Tus Hijos.  These prevention-oriented programs promote better and more frequent communication between parents and children about drugs and alcohol and other risky behaviors.  In addition to driving significant web traffic to Partnership sites, Time To Talk and Habla have attracted corporate support from a variety of funders (Hershey, Consumer Healthcare Products Association, Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association, A&E Networks and others) and support from many strategic partners in the public health, communications and education space.
  • Relationship-building with strategic partners who can help expand the reach, credibility and effectiveness of Partnership content and programs.  Current strategic partners include the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the National Association of School Nurses, Big Brothers / Big Sisters, the PTA, YMCA and Univision (for Habla).
  • Coordination of the Partnership’s “channel marketing” efforts, promoting Partnership content to groups of professionals whom parents seek out when they have a child in trouble with drugs or alcohol:  e.g., family physicians, adolescent psychiatrists, high school guidance counselors, coaches, clergy.
  • Working with the Partnership’s media and communications partners (both paid and pro bono) to help create and disseminate marketing materials.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have at least 6-8 years in relevant marketing communications experience (e.g., digital sales and marketing, social media, advertising, brand marketing, public relations).  He/she must be fluent in English and Spanish in order to work effectively on Habla Con Tus Hijos and expand the Partnership’s relationships and programs with Hispanic partners.  Additional background in public health nonprofits, substance abuse, parent or youth counseling is a major plus. The Marketing / Communications Manager - Multicultural Programs will be an energetic, pro-active individual who can work well across disciplines in a leanly staffed organization, and can interact professionally with senior level executives both inside and outside the Partnership.
