Sean was a student at Wilkes University Pharmacy department when he came home at the Christmas break in 2001. His mother had passed away in 1999. I did not know he was depressed and we never talked about all this. Somehow, he started using drugs to calm himself down.
Sean was in college 3 1/2 years of a 6 year doctoral program. He told me he wanted to ride it out, but I think he really went out and used his sizable amount of money to purchase his drugs. He went to a New Year's Eve party in Allentown, PA, at his roommate’s house. It was there at the estimated time of 3:30 A.M., that he ingested a lethal amount of heroin and was pronounced dead at the hospital on January 1st, 2002. It took me over 2-1/2 hours to get there, but it was too late. The family slept in and they were also too late for him.
I really miss him and his mother. I will always blame myself for not talking to him and telling him how much I loved him and that I was so proud of him. But, I know he knows that today. I place a carnation at the gravesite on two days every year. One on the anniversary of the day he was born, and the other on the day he died. I will continue to do that.
His life impacted many students at Wilkes University and he had many friends there. I wish I was in his life more. That is my real regret.
I LOVE YOU SEAN!
